Classic Madness

March 10th, 2007

This post in another angry rant about article quality.  Over at Puremtgo.com, Frank Colvin ( aka Nitti ) wrote an article titled: “Madness in Multi”.  To get this blog post started right I should mention that the article doesn’t even address any kind of “Multiplayer” at all.  Its purely your standard Madness deck with Brainstorm thrown in to make it classic.

A while back Roland Chang won a Legacy even with a UG Madness deck which is pretty comparable to a MTGO Classic list.  The biggest difference is that Chang ran almost 10 counter spells which undoubtedly helped him in a meta filled with ultra fast aggro and combo decks.  By comparison Nitti’s list only runs four.  That is quite amazing considering the MTGO Classic meta is filled with combo decks as well.  Another strange choice is the absolute lack of graveyard hate.  Most Tier 1 classic decks run graveyard hate main and so should you. Against other classic decks, Roar of the Wurm, Deep Analysis, and Wonder are going to be dead cards some games.

The author did mention he was working with a budget to build this deck but I fail to see how he couldn’t squeeze in a couple of better and more appropiate cards.  Acorn Harvest?  For what?   Hail Storm would be pretty good against all of the Boros, UW Fish, Goblin decks.  – 30 cents
