Neat Magic the Gathering iPhone App

May 24th, 2009

There really is an app for everything I guess. Today I found a forum post over at tcgplayer.com describing a very feature rich Magic the Gathering application for the iPhone called the Sylvan library.  Here is a copypasta list of the applications features:

  • The Gatherer card search with card art, price, oracle text, and more.
  • D20 dice, 2D6 dice, and a coin to flip. All motion controlled and 3D!
  • Fully featured life counter with poison and mana counters all on one screen, all controlled with just up/down, left/right swipes.
  • Game timer with log to keep track of life totals and win count.
  • The log can be saved for future reference.
  • Fully customizable with hand painted artwork, including backgrounds and avatars. You can use pictures from your photo roll too!
  • A reference library with over 80 documents that’s searchable!
  • RSS links to popular Magic RSS feeds.
  • Top player list.
  • Find local Magic events.
  • Facebook connect integration.

If I had an iPhone I’d probably give it a whirl although I’m a bit skeptical about how useful it could be.  A d20 is pretty functional you know?  The UI doesn’t look too pretty from the screenshots posted in the forum thread.  Why does everybody working with inside the fantasy intellectual property space insist on using textured backgrounds for everything?  It just makes text harder to read!

“The Sylvan Archives” to be exact. Also, Thanks for the post not too many “electronic games” on MtG.

  4. Laura D. White Says:

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

Hi, a friend of mine recommended Neat Magic the Gathering iPhone App | A Magic the Gathering Blog – The Jitte to me so I came to see it. I really like the design. I will bookmark it and come back to it again. I just wanted to ask you what your theme is called and if I can find it for free.

I wanted to put you the little word to be able to finally many thanks as prior to just for the gorgeous pointers you have contributed right here. This is seriously open-handed with individuals as if you to supply freely precisely what a number of them might have offered on the market with an e-book to build some revenue for their own reasons, mostly considering the fact that you could have used it if you needed. Those options also worked to provide a easy way to know that most people have comparable attention exactly like my very own to learn a lot a lot more when it comes to this challenge. I am certain there are numerous nicer opportunities at the start for individuals that look at your website.

  7. Piotr Farbiszewski Says:

I believe the best MTG app for iPhone, at the moment, is iMtG developed by yours truly.

  8. theGatherer Says:

I had been looking for a solo MTG app on the iPhone for ages, and today I just found Wagic ( http://wololo.net/wagic/download ). I had tried Shadow Era, but it doesn’t have the depth of MTG, while Wagic seems to really nail it. Strongly recommended!
